This is the best tennis ball hopper made! I was originally going to purchase one of the high end metal hoppers but I'm so glad I didn't. The Hoag ball hopper is extremely strong but the 4 pegs along the bottom are about three-quarter inches thick so when picking up the balls they don't go all the way into the basket. Instead, you have to continually press on top of an additional balls to have the first ball fully enter into the basket, and so on. With the last 4-5 balls you either have to force them inside by hand, or let them naturally fall out the bottom and add them manually into the top. Ending each pick-up this way is a pain, particularly when you're done hitting and tired. The Unique Ballport build quality is outstanding, consisting of solid plastic inserts and metal screws that actually secure/fortify the basket from breaking. Not sure why their is a Sampras Ballport 80 and a regular Ballport 80. They are identical but the price is less for the non-Sampras version. The writing on the hopper and everything is identical. If you need a hopper that holds 80 balls then this is it. Unlike all other metal hoppers, this one actually holds the stated amount of 80 balls. Because of the build of the metal hoppers, which are angled on the sides(whereas the Ballport is square), you can only get about 85% of the stated capacity, unless you meticulously place each ball in the basket by hand - not good. The top of the Bal port has two sliding poles to secure the balls from falling out which is much better than a free hanging top that swings open and shut. Buy this hopper you won't regret it.
Ideal ball retriever May 27, 2010 John Heinrichs (Fitchburg, WI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife and I practice often with about 25 balls carried in two Slinghopper drill bags. We use a Sampras Ballport
to store balls for Slinghopper refills and for picking up our 30/40 practice balls when our balls are used
up. The Sampras Ballport is durable plastic, and is easily assembled. During use, the metal legs reverse up to become
carry handles. You simply walk around to push the Ballport down on a ball to pick it up. There are two bars
on the bottom of the Ballport which move in slots so when you push down the bars move apart and the ball pops
up into the Ballport, thus avoiding bending over to pick up balls. When all the balls are picked up the legs again
reverse to become legs. The change is easy with the legs held in detents when used as either a carry handle or
as legs. We place the Ballport next to the fence, load up our drill bags and use the Ballport for storage of extra
balls. When our practice/play session is done the Ballport is a handy way to carry the balls to the car and store
the balls at home.
Works great, makes quick work of ball pickup June 14, 2010 William Hathaway Mine arrived last week. The assembly took about 5 minutes (the only nit I have is that the assembly instructions were a bit wimpy, they could have added a few more diagrams, but it was still pretty easy). I took the ballport out to the court with about 30 tennis balls and was happy having something to hold a bunch of balls for me at close to waist level. When I had finished my round of hitting, the ballport made picking the balls up a cinch. The roller bars on the bottom are really helpful in "sucking up" tennis balls. There are two rods on the top that you can slide into the center which keeps balls from spilling out if you want to put the hopper and balls into your car or otherwise transport it, very handy. I would definitely recommend this.
Great ball hopper. June 21, 2010 A. Stephenson It is lightweight and easy to put together. My favorite part is the there are 2 bars that slide over the opening so I can lay it down sideways in the trunk of my car when I am driving to and from the tennis court.
great to carry in the car July 13, 2010 M. Ferro (chicago, IL USA) Easy to put together and great to carry in the car, ready to go for a game any time.
